The Board of Directors of Adopt-a-Family is made up of 19 people who work all year to make this happen.
Although some are putting in more hours now as we near the week of December 11 and the culmination of a year's work, we are all getting ready.
Most of our board meets weekly from September through November to screen ALL the applications, 1200 of them, before we send them out to donors.
The donors and recipients have to be added to a database, a job shared by a couple of us.
We work together to prepare four mailings by hand that total 750-1,100 pieces each.
We have a group who works all year scouting out bargains and sales of clothes and toys to give to the kids we have no donors for.
We have people who call 150+ volunteers to prepare the schedule for the week in December to make sure every job is covered.
This all happens BEFORE the week in December that we spend at the Elks taking in gifts for 2,200 kids that we sort, store and then distribute to 1,110 families. That week we are there from 8 am to 8 pm. Many of us take a week’s vacation and many work all day and then come and work until closing.
The point is, we're a team.
